Stephen Warbeck is one of the best-known film composers working in Britain today. His many credits include Shakespeare in Love, for which he won an Oscar for Best Original Score, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Billy Elliott, Flawless, Miguel and William, Birthday Girl, Quills, Mrs Brown and My Son the Fanatic. Stephen’s most recent film scores include Alpha Male, Love at First Kill, The Other Man, The Winter Butterfly, Gallowwalker, There Be Dragons and Princess Ka`iulani.
He won the Georges Delerue Prize for his score for Proof in 2005 and was nominated for the European Film Award for The Memory of a Killer the year before.
Stephen has written extensively for theatre. Credits include The Seagull, The Winterling and Alice Trilogy at The Royal Court, Pericles, Prince of Tyre at the Globe, and Proof at the National Theatre. Stephen completed his first ballet score in 2005, Peter Pan, for Northern Ballet, choreographed by David Nixon.
In recent years Stephen has written scores for more than forty television plays or films, including all of Lynda La Plante’s Prime Suspect dramas, for which he was nominated for a BAFTA award. He also writes music for his band The Kippers. He is an Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
