FERNANDO VELÁZQUEZ
Biography

Fernando Velázquez’ experience as an accomplished cello player in various orchestras, and his training in conservatories and composition studies in the RCSM Madrid and Paris are the foundations of his talent. Proof of this are his different compositions of symphonic music, drama, as well as his work in a diverse and large number of short films such as Historia de un Búho, El Hombre Esponja, A las 7:35 de la mañana and El Soñador – all of them winners of Best Soundtrack awards in various film festivals.

Despite his age, 33, Fernando Velázquez already has experience in the world of cinema, and especially in the horror genre, having worked on movies like The Birthday by Eugenio Mira, Bosque de Sombras (“The Backwoods”) by Koldo Serra and El Sindrome Svensson by Kepa Sojo. Fernando came to international prominence with his score for The Orphanage, which earned nominations for the European Film Award and the Goya Award. Recently, Fernando has also written the music for Shiver, Sexy Killer and El mal ajeno.

In 2010, The International Film Music Critics Association nominated Fernando for the “Best Original Score for a Documentary Feature” for Garbo: El espía. His next film score is for the theatrical biopic, Lope, about Spanish playwright Lope de Vega, directed by Andrucha Waddington.
