RYAN SHORE
Biography
Ryan Shore is one of the most versatile and creative voices voices in film composing. His diverse background of classical, jazz and contemporary music, combined with his ability to be highly collaborative and to deliver music on time and on budget, has quickly moved him to the forefront of the most sought after film composers today.
His recent films include Prime (Universal Pictures) starring Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman, which was written and directed by Ben Younger. He also composed original on-camera music for the upcoming Fur, starring Nicole Kidman and Robert Downey, Jr., due for release in November 2006. Additional releases in 2006 include Kettle of Fish starring Matthew Modine and Gina Gershon, 212 (Sundance Film Festival premiere) and Headspace, for which he recorded and conducted the score in Bratislava with an 80 piece orchestra.
Shore’s scores also include Harvard Man starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Adrian Grenier, Scout’s Honor starring Bill Murray and Alec Baldwin, Call Me: The Rise and Fall of Heidi Fleiss starring Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Lift starring Kerry Washington, Confession starring Chris Pine, Vulgar produced by Kevin Smith, and Coney Island Baby.
For his score to Cadaverous, he received the first-ever Elmer Bernstein Scoring Award, which was personally judged and presented by Academy Award winning composer Elmer Bernstein (To Kill a Mockingbird, The Magnificent Seven). This began a friendship which continued until Elmer’s passing. Ryan’s extensive work in film also includes producing the music for the Saturday Night Live Studios theatrical logo, orchestrating for Analyze This and Dogma and arranging source music for The Game. Ryan is the nephew of Academy Award-winning film composer Howard Shore.
As a composer, conductor or orchestrator, he has worked with world-renowned orchestras including The New York Philharmonic, The London Philharmonic, The Hollywood Symphony Orchestra, The Czech Philharmonic, and The Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra.
When not scoring for film, he plays saxophone, clarinet and flute, and has played with Matchbox Twenty (on tour of the U.S, including a special street performance on David Letterman), Natalie Cole, Oleta Adams, and The Uptown Horns, among many others. He has also created string and horn arrangements for many artists -- most recently co-arranging and conducting the strings for Janita’s current album, “Seasons of Life”.
