"Most of the films in this release are probably still below the radar in local video shops and TV, but the quality of the music may cause some curious listeners to seek out these flicks and see how well the music suits the movies." - KQEK
"A must for any jazz fan..." - Music from the Movies
"A wonderful score... the music has a trippy, reverberating quality that lingers in the air like smoke” - Obsessed With Film
An exciting collection of three jazz and bluesorientated film works composed by Ryan Shore (Prime, The Girl Next Door, Headspace). This is possibly his most personal album so far, given his background in jazz as saxophone player. The score for Numb, the acclaimed Matthew Perry drama that won the Audience Award at the Gen Art Film Festival, showcases a restrained melodic approach featuring prominent use of the Rhodes electric piano, while the story of Coney Island Baby gives room for a cool rhythm n’ blues score.
The biggest selection, though, comes from Kettle of Fish nine jazz compositions used as source cues in the film during the on-screen jazz performances featuring Matthew Modine. Playing like a first-rate jazz album, thanks to the inspired compositions and great playing by the Ryan Shore Quartet, Kettle of Fish belongs to some of the most strikingly original jazz written for the silver screen.
