ANDREW HEWITT
Biography

Born 1976 in England, Andrew trained classically from childhood in the choir of Westminster Abbey, moving on to gain numerous classical training scholarships, bursaries and awards as pianist, singer and oboist.  He read Music at St Johns College, Cambridge University, and Performance at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  Initially a fulltime classical performer, he toured and recorded chorally at the highest levels of opera, concert, studio and film - from the UK, across Europe, to the USA, Canada, Asia & Australia.  He worked across all styles and mediums, from avant-garde premieres to baroque recordings, to performance in scores at Abbey Road including the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter series, The Golden Compass & Pirates of the Caribbean - under conductors such as John Williams, Howard Shore and Alexandre Desplat.

During that period he developed and enhanced his lifelong improvisatory facility, inspired particularly by American PostMinimalism.  Study at London’s Institute of Psychoanalysis developed his composition, as did private consultation with two of England’s most prestigious composers Jonathan Dove and Colin Matthews.  Andrew was then Bafta Nominated for his first score - cult series Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - and his feature film scores are preceded by a highly varied array of tv series, multi-awardwinning short films, and commercials.  Andrew orchestrates and conducts all his instrumental and vocal scores, fusing orchestral textures with electronic material he produces at his studio via the most comprehensive contemporary sample libraries.  He combines an experienced classical and varied musical background with his singularly lifelong passion for film and filmmusic, demonstrated by his aficianado-size soundtrack and film collection.

Recent features include Richard Ayoade and Ben Stiller's award-nominated comedy Submarine (Sally Hawkins & Paddy Considine) - "refreshing, urgent and original" Telegraph ***** - dark thriller Cuckoo (Richard E Grant & Tamsin Greig) - "a frenetic, heart-pounding score" Glasgow Film Festival - and The Four Horsemen (Noam Chomsky).
