JEFF GRACE
Biography

Jeff Grace has composed scores for films with appearances at The Toronto International Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, South By Southwest, Los Angeles Film Festival, SlamDance, and The Rotterdam International Film Festival.  His work has been performed by Flux Quartet, Lucia Micarelli, Valentina Farcas (Berlin Comic Opera), Marcus DeLoach (New York City Opera), Kenny Barron, American Opera Projects, and members of the New York Metropolitan Opera and New York Philharmonic orchestras.

Recent film projects for Jeff include Glenn McQuaid's I Sell The Dead - starring Dominic Monaghan (Lost/The Lord of the Rings) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Ti West's The House of the Devil - starring Tom Noonan (Manhunter/Heat) and Mary Woronov (The Devil's Rejects). His previous film credits include Larry Fessenden’s The Last Winter (starring Ron Perlman, James LeGros, and Connie Britton), Ilya Chaiken's Liberty Kid (Starring Al Thompson and Kareem Savinon), and Ti West’s Trigger Man and The Roost (starring Tom Noonan and Will Horneff).

Active as a composer for concert and stage, Jeff was selected for American Opera Projects’ 2005-2006 Composers And The Voice Series where he was awarded the Tobias Picker Chair, entailing a mentorship with the celebrated composer.  Jeff is also active as an orchestrator and arranger with credits including Lady Gaga, Lucia Micarelli and Fredrick Doci and such films as Just Buried. On the contemporary dance front, Jeff has worked with composer Robert Ruggieri on Ruggieri's scores for A Hymn for Alvin Ailey (ballet and film) and Double Exposure (ballet) for The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (directed and choreographed by Judith Jamison).

1998 marked the beginning of Jeff’s film and television music career working as a composer and producer at the New York music house, Ruggieri Music. Jeff was also assistant to Legendary jazz composer/arranger Gil Goldstein working on projects for such artists as Pat Metheny and Roy Hargrove.  From 2001 to 2004 Jeff was an assistant to Academy Award winning composer Howard Shore working on the three films of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Martin Scorsese’s The Gangs of New York, David Cronenberg’s Spider, David Fincher’s Panic Room, and Frank Oz’s The Score. Through that association, Jeff worked with such artists as Renee Fleming, Annie Lennox, Enya, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Kronos Quartet, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, Terry Edward’s London Voices, and top studio orchestras and musicians in London, Los Angeles and New York.

Jeff holds a Bachelor's Degree in music from The Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. He studied composition under Charles Fussell and Rolv Yttrehus, piano and composition under legendary jazz artist Kenny Barron, arranging under Michael Philip Mossman, and conducting under New York Grand Opera director Vincent La Selva.
