Born in England in 1982, Stephen Barton was a chorister in Winchester Cathedral Choir under renowned conductor David Hill, touring the Americas and Australia before the age of twelve. A year later he received a prestigious scholarship to study piano, composition and orchestration at Wells, Somerset, one of the four specialist music schools in the UK. In 2002 he began working with composer Harry Gregson-Williams, contributing music to Sinbad, Legend of the Seven Seas, Shrek 2 (including the "Fairy Godmother's Song" from the platinum selling soundtrack), The Chronicles of Narnia, and Kingdom of Heaven amongst numerous others. In 2004 he conducted Grgeson-Williams' score for Tony Scott's Man on Fire with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, as well as writing music for the cult movie Team America: World Police, and also for Bille August's Return to Sender. Most recently he worked closely with Sir Anthony Hopkins on his score for Slipstream, arranging and orchestrating the music for the film that will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. He also scored the indie hit Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont (from the director of Passionada and The Whole Wide World, Dan Ireland) and contributed music to the soundtracks for Flushed Away (Dreamworks), Deja Vu (New Line), and The Number 23, also for New Line Cinema. He is also an accomplished pianist; he played all the piano parts for Shrek 2 and much of Narnia, as well as featuring on the Hybrid album, I Choose Noise. Outside of the film world he enjoys playing and watching football (real football) and cricket, is an appallingly bad golfer, and is very partial to good beer.
